Jesus is in Nazareth. Judas asks him if he is going to Mount Lebanon, and he confirms that he is, as he has promised Esther and must see the shepherds Daniel and Benjamin. The Iscariot then decides to take his leave to go and see his mother, and Peter rejoices loudly at this unexpected departure. Jesus then gives words of consolation to James of Alphaeus, who is overcome with scruples because he feels he is not doing right by his own mother. Then the Master enjoins Peter to be charitable towards Judas.

Jonathas then comes storming in, adoring the Savior, and above all asking him for a miracle for his mistress, Jeanne de Kouza, who is dying. Jesus arrives in Nazareth, after the death of Alphaeus. He is not well received. Christ doesn't want anyone to go and tell his Mother, and goes straight to his uncle's house. There he meets with hostility from Simon and Joseph of Alphaeus, but the elder Simon is more fair-minded. Joseph, on the other hand, is much more stubborn and unwilling to forgive the Lord. Jesus assures us, however, that Alpheus died peacefully.

Jesus is in the synagogue in Nazareth. He preaches what is in the Gospel, that the Lord has sent him, and that this word is being fulfilled today. Reading people's hearts, he sees that Nazareth would like a special favor, but out of selfishness, not out of true conversion. So he says that no prophet is welcome in his country, and Nazareth chases him away. Later, he joins his Mother in a small hamlet and tells her that he will go away for a while, to please her. They also talk about the Sacrifice he will have to perform.
