18.10 Entrust God with the protection of your reputation and affections. If you deserve God’s protection with a holy life, you can proceed safely. Even if the whole world is against you, He will defend you with regard to those who love you and will cause the truth to be known.

«True. But would that diminish your merit? No, it would not. Or rather, something would change. But to your advantage. God, to the merits of your bounty, would add the merits of your intellectual, financial, physical martyrdom.»
Jesus speaks of the hospitality we should show to pilgrims and the love we should show to our enemies, asserting that it is better to sin "out of kindness of soul and trust than out of defiance and harshness". Indeed, God's blessing will remain on us even if we are harmed. Peter then said:
